Germany's best Christmas Markets
Shop for traditional Yuletide gifts in the enchanting surrounds of the Rhine and Moselle Valleys as you head to Cochem and historic Koblenz to visit some of the most picturesque Christmas markets of this romantic region. The break features overnight crossings on the Newcastle to Amsterdam DFDS Seaways' service, so there's no long journey south to cross the Channel.
Single rooms are available for a supplement
Relax as you journey to the German Valleys on board the DFDS Seaways' service between Newcastle and Amsterdam. You'll be accommodated in a two-berth inside cabin with private shower and toilet, and once you've settled in you'll be able to enjoy the superb facilities on board the ship, including its range of bars and restaurants.
Leaving the local area in the morning we travel to Newcastle for our overnight sailing to Amsterdam.
Our ship arrives in Amsterdam at 0930hrs, and from there we'll continue to Germany, arriving at our hotel in the German Valley region in the early evening in plenty of time for dinner.
After breakfast we'll visit two traditional German Christmas markets. Our first stop will be charming, Moselle-side Cochem, its quaint half-timbered houses dominated by the imposing Reichburg Castle. During this special time of the year, the Market Square is alive with shopkeepers selling unique gifts and tasty local delicacies.
Our second stop will be Koblenz. This historic city sits in a vital strategic position for controlling the Rhine's river traffic. Here, beneath the festively illuminated Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, you'll find around 100 seasonally decorated wooden huts selling all manner of festive fare, and an atmosphere of winter fun with live music and carriage rides through the romantic old town.
Later that evening, after the chance to have dinner, you'll also be able to join our optional wine-tasting evening to sample the local vintages.
Spend today relaxing in the idyllic surroundings of our hotel, or join our optional excursion to Rudesheim. On arrival we'll board the Rudesheimer Winzerexpress (road train) and travel up to the town centre, where you'll have plenty of free time to soak up the atmosphere of Rudesheim's famous Christmas market, which features Europe's largest Nativity Scene, before we view the remarkable collection of musical instruments found in the Siegfried's Musik Kabinett museum.
Today we retrace our steps to Amsterdam and board our overnight DFDS Seaways' sailing, which departs at 1800hrs.
Our ship arrives in Newcastle at 0900hrs, and once back in the UK, we'll make our way to the local area by coach.
Take full advantage of the famous hospitality of the Rhine and Moselle regions, and upgrade to half-board accommodation and enjoy a three-course meal each evening at your hotel.
Due to space restrictions on the ship we advise you to pack clothes, toiletries and any belongings you are likely to need on board into a small overnight bag. The remainder of your luggage will stay with the coach, and cannot be accessed during the sailing.
